Throckmorton Gildersleeve plays a blustery ladies man who very often finds himself in some very unusual situations. He is raising his “too smart” nephew Leroy, he relies on his secretary Bessie and often ignores the advice of his housekeeper Birdie. The Great Gildersleeve enjoyed its greatest popularity in the 1940s.  The show was one of broadcast history’s earliest spin-off programs. The series ran from 1941 to 1958. Unfortunatly, the show started a ratings decline beginning in the 1950’s due to many character changes.
